Britney vs. Princess Diana

Just this afternoon, one of our classmates in theology class reported on stewardship… and it’s such a cliché to mention that we, Christians, are said to be the stewards of God’s creation. Nonetheless, I do believe this claim will forever be true.

I do not have a thing against beauty pageant contestants, but don’t these girls just look so vain? When I was a little girl, I used to think of them as elite, glamorous, and smart (I got the idea from Ms. Universe)… but as I grew up, I saw the association of beauty pageant contestants to dumb blondes. It pains me to see such women to easily display their pretty bodies and find it hard to utilize their brains.

However, as I came across this show, “Miss Earth,” I soon realized that there’s more to them than just being an eye candy. There was something more than their usual “world peace” spiel… they were advocating for a greener and cleaner environment. And what made me more impressed is the fact that the show began in the Philippines… come to think of it, our country badly needs to advocate for such ecological campaign. Perhaps it was from our own ecological problems that they came up with the idea.

In this show, you’ll see clips of contestants going to different places; planting trees, helping out the needy, and list goes on. I have somewhat underestimated their abilities. Pretty looks and perky yet girly actions can be deceiving. I admit, I was. But I now attest that these women are and have been doing their share of time and effort to saving the world. Isn’t that heroic?

On the contrary, there are still a LOT of dumb blondes in the world. Girls nowadays prefer to be more like Britney Spears, than the late Princess Diana. They deem that beauty comes first in everything. And this is a DEPRESSING FACT.

Not just his or her loved ones, but others and their communities so they can live better lives." - Miriam Quiambao, TV Personality/ Bb.Pilipinas title holder 1999

hey, thanks for mentioning my report! ahaha!
anyway, let us all be "stewards" of God's creation..we should not be neglecting this subtle and silent call of God..we, the female species on earth, are more expected to lead in taking care of things..
and oh, i despise britney now..i used to love her...not anymore...=(

Planting trees by the contestants is such a publicity act. Hahahahaha I guess? Cause after the pageant what do they do? Do they still do that "helping" that we've witnessed? Umm I DON'T THINK SO or I just don't know what's going on after the pageant.

"Beauty comes first in everything."--- really a FACT. Depressing? Ummm maybe. But for me, as a person, it is not our mission, I mean ALL OF US to help someone, save the world, bla bla, it's all up to you so..... thank you to those who help others, and to the ones who don't care, I got no beef with you guys, that's just the way it is and... I'm an honorary member. HAHAHA (sorry for my self-centered comments, Milca. You know me...HAHAHAHA)
